Against the Feed
A defense of the slow index over the infinite scroll, and of thought placed before credential.

What the feed optimizes
A feed is engineered to never end, because an ending is a moment you might leave. It rewards the reflex over the argument and the recent over the true. It is very good at holding attention and very bad at deserving it.
The index as an alternative
An index is the opposite object. It is finite, ordered, and it expects you to leave. It says: here is everything, here is its shape, choose your depth and go. The reader is treated as someone with somewhere to be, which is the most respectful thing a page can assume.
Why it belongs on a personal site
A person is not a stream of updates; a person is a small set of durable commitments and a long tail of work in service of them. The index renders that. The feed renders only the last thing you did, which is rarely the truest thing about you.
